March 2nd in the SHHS Cafeteria. Starting at 7PM, the agenda will include: organization for the color guard and percussion show, schedules for the spring semester, a presentation of band booster officers for 06-07, turn in for frozen food orders, and turn in on reservations for the Carnegie Hall trip. Wow! What a meeting!!! These meetings are for every parent who has a child in the band. Come on!
our indoor color guard for their great efforts this season. With Debbie
Stites, Rachel Tolbert, and Joann Hodge as instructors, these girls have become the talk
of the Carolina Indoor Performance Association. This past weekend, they were promoted to
the High School National level of competition. This means that in fourteen months, we have
moved from the entry level of competition to the top 10% of groups in the CIPA.
We are so proud of each of these girls!
happen next week!!! You should be hearing lots of practicing in the evenings at home. We have our second round of chair auditions during class the week prior to spring break. These auditions are for a grade, placement for the spring concerts, and placement in concert bands for next year.
See the Calendar for the dates!
is this weekend. We need plenty of parent and student volunteers to help this
become a great success. Great news, McDonalds (former band parents Leon and Sue LeBlanc)
have taken on this event as corporate sponsors! This, combined with great sales of ads for
our program has ensured that when we open the doors, we begin making money for our band program.
This event will support our guard for the winter, give us a start for next year, and help
the general fund for our entire band program.
We still need more help as we host over 2000 people for March 4th. Come to the meeting and
sign up or visit the website: shhsbandboosters.org and sign up to help through the link.
Here are some quick statements that we hope will clear things up: This trip
is for all band students: Concert band, percussion, and color guard.
Here is how signup works: We need to have a reservation slip and a deposit of $200.00 before
spring break. This will allow us to reserve tickets, meals, and buses for the trip.
This deposit amount is non-refundable. A complete breakdown of trip costs and choices will
be ready at our meeting. There will be the opportunity for three groups of people to go on
the trip: Students, chaperones (reduced rate), and tag-a-longs. We reduce the rate for chaperones
because of the number of responsibilities they have. Tag-a-longs travel at a slightly higher
cost. We will have to close all signups by end of March, please be sure that you don’t
miss this once-in-a-lifetime trip for your kid.
All students will perform as part of this trip. There are three performance venues: Carnegie
Hall, Central Park, and South Street Seaport. We will have groups performing at each of these
venues.
Other enjoyable parts of the trip that we are planning: Broadway Show, New York Philharmonic
Orchestra, Statue of Liberty, China Town, Little Italy, Times Square, Dinner cruise around
Manhattan, and a First-Class hotel next to Carnegie Hall.
Our next step with the band boosters is elect our officers (April 6th) and then to fill the committee chairs for 06-07. If you want to help support your kid, here is a way of doing that and meeting many new people. Contact Bud and B.J. King, talk to them at our meeting, or visit the website and look at the information there. As kids and their parents graduate, there are always opportunities for you to help us grow the SHHS Band. You might have gifts to bring that no one has ever considered before. Jump in, get involved and help our kids be as successful as possible.
