Three in All-State Band and Orchestra!

Congrats to Layla Marshall, Andrew Brady, and Hilary Maitlen!

Concert Band Auditions...

happen the week after Spring Break. You should be hearing lots of practicing in the evenings at home. We have our second round of chair auditions during class the week just after spring break. These auditions are for a grade, placement for the spring concerts, and placement in concert bands for next year.

Color guard auditions for fall 2009

will happen the week of March 3-7. Training sessions have already begun, but the audition will have teaching sessions from 3-5PM each day, followed by the actual audition on Friday afternoon. We will announce results and distribute contracts before the students leave for spring break on the 7th.

Wind Ensemble plays at UK

The Science Hill Wind Ensemble will be traveling to Lexington Kentucky on March 4-5 to participate in the Wind Band Symposium. This is the first time a group from outside of Kentucky has been asked to participate. The students will travel up on Tuesday, rehearse Tuesday night, then participate in master classes and perform on Wednesday. We are scheduling study sessions during the day on Wednesday so they will be prepared for tests on Thursday.

Upcoming performance dates:

See the Calendar for the dates!

Thursday, April 3rd, All of our concert bands will be performing in the fabulous Niswonger Center in Greeneville, TN. Each band will be transported to Greeneville via Young Coach buses, perform, sight read, and then be returned to campus. We will have a complete schedule when we return from Spring Break. We hosted festival for the past five years, but cannot host due to the shut-down of our facilities.

Band Signups and Auditions for next year.

For those who are new to the high school band (8th and 9th grade), this is how it works: We will listen to every child perform their 12 major scales. The more octaves and higher in accuracy, the higher their score. The results will reseat them in their current bands and yield a major grade for the spring semester.

Based upon these auditions, they will be placed in a concert band for next spring. After spring break, we will hand each student a contract for next year and a schedule for all commitments in the fall semester. Signed contracts (with deposit) will need to be returned no later than April 11th. We will then begin writing the show for next fall.

Parents: The commitment on these contracts is what allows us to custom-write a show that fits our band completely. Please help us teach children the value of commitment. Once they are signed up, we must expect them to be there in August.

How to turn-in frozen food orders:

The entire package of forms and money envelope can be turned in at the March 6th meeting or deposited in the band booster payment box in the band room.

40% of your total sale will be credited as profit to your travel account.
