April 2007

Our next meeting is Thursday,...

April 5th in the SHHS Cafeteria. Starting at 7PM, the agenda will include: organization for the color guard trip to Dayton, purchase and replacement of band uniforms for fall-2007, reservations for the band banquet, as well as our upcoming spring concerts. These meetings are for every parent who has a child in the band. Come on!

Congratulations to...

our indoor color guard for their great efforts this season. With Debbie Stites, Rachel Tolbert, and Melita Warner as instructors, these girls have become the talk of the Carolina Indoor Performance Association and Winter Guard International. In their first contest, they placed first in Scholastic A National, then 5th in their first ever WGI event in Pensacola.

In our performance at CIPA Championships on March 31st, the Indoor Guard had the highest score of any high school ensemble and were champions of the High School National Division.

Six in All-State Band and Orchestra!

Ashley Wilson, Katherine Stites, Jena Emory, John Krekelberg, Andrew Brady, and Richard Hopkins!!!!!! These students will leave April 19th and be back on April 22nd.

Concert band Auditions

begin after concert festival!!! You should be hearing lots of practicing in the evenings at home. We have our second round of chair auditions during class the week prior to spring break. These auditions are for a grade, placement for the spring concerts, and placement in concert bands for next year.

Color guard auditions for fall 2008 will continue this week. Information sheets are available in the 10-12 band room.

Carnegie Hall...

was a splendid success. Many thanks to everyone that helped make this once in a lifetime opportunity for our kids such a success. We are all excited by the performances both bands on the stage of Carnegie Hall, as well as the jazz band, color guard, and percussion ensembles at central park!
Please be sure that your child takes the time to write a thank you note to the chaperones who took on the responsibility of guiding them on the trip. They can send them to the band room if they can‘t find their address.

Band Signups/Auditions for next year.

For those who are new to the high school band (8th and 9th grade), this is how it works: We will listen to every child perform their 12 major scales.

Based upon these auditions, they will be placed in a concert band for next spring. After spring break, we will hand each student a contract for next year and a schedule for all commitments in the fall semester.
